Mitsubishi PX-MiEV Plug-in Hybrid SUV Concept gets 118mpg

Highlighting Mitsubishi's efforts to catch up to its domestic rivals in hybrid technology at this year's Tokyo Show is the PX-MiEV, a compact sized four-wheel drive crossover fitted with a 1.6-liter petrol engine and two electric motors, one for the front wheels and one for the rear. At low to medium speeds the PX-MiEV can rely on the front and if necessary, the rear electric motor also to motivate the vehicle. At higher speeds the gasoline engine, which is also used to generate electricity for the electric motors, kicks in to help power the crossover.
The PC-MiEV is equipped with battery pack that can be replenished through regenerative breaking, the gasoline engine, a regular household plug or a high-power quick-charging station. In electric-only mode, the PX-MiEV has a range of 30 miles or about 50km.
The Japanese firm said that the PX-MiEV is good for 117.6mpg US which come to around 2.0 lt/100km or 141mpg UK.

March 3rd, 2010 The 2010 Mitsubishi Endeavor is on of the most affordable midsize SUVs in it's class. It is evident when looking at the exterior that Mitsubishi have tried to make this vehicle stand out from other SUVs.  They have succeeded in doing so with the sharp lines of the front end, it doesn't have as many rounded off edges as you would expect to see in this class of vehicle.  However, the style of the Endeavor hasn't changed for 2010, the only difference is in the re-designed tailgate. There are two trims to choose from, the base LS and the premium SE. All trim levels come with a 3.8-liter 225-horsepower V-6 engine, which seems to prove not as powerful as its competitors.  Acceleration on the other hand is impressive, the smooth take off will get you from 0-60 in 7.6 seconds.  The 2WD version of the Endeavor achieves 15 mpg city and 21 mpg on the highway, while the 4WD does 15 mpg city and 19 on the highway. If you're into off-road riding the Endeavor is not the vehicle for you.  It handles reasonably well in standard road conditions, other than some body roll and vehicle lean.  Although it can handle itself in certain off road situations, it is not built for usage on any major terrain.  The interior offers a comfortable driving position, with plenty of room for rear seat passengers.  Features on the SE include, cruise control, power locks and mirrors, air conditioning, and six-speaker 140-watt CD audio system.  The LS has many other added interior features, such as, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, heated leather seats, and 10-way power adjustable driver's seat. This SUV can be purchased for the reasonable price of $27,238.  Cargo space could have been better, the 76.4 cubic feet is the maximum for the Mitsubishi Endeavor.  Safety features include, Traction Control system and anti-lock brakes with brake force distribution.  The Endeavor proved to be good when tested in frontal offset and side impact crashes.  Mistsubishi could have done a lot more with the 2010 Endeavor, but for the money it has enough going for it to be a good family vehicle. Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X updated for 2010

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X 2010 2 (Custom)
Mitsubishi has made a few subtle changes to its 2010 spec Evolution X for the Japanese market.
The sideskirts have been beefed up slightly while the front bumper which looks identical to the current version weighs about 1.5kg less thanks to the use of much lighter plastics.

Inside, a new full-colour multi-function LCD display in the centre of the instrument cluster replaces the existing screen, bringing new functions at the same time. Mitsubishi has also added some new interior trim options, with more padding and insulation installed to improve cabin ambience.
The Japanese edition of this revised 2010 Evolution X range will be without the five-speed manual transmission thou, thus leaving the six-speed twin-clutch SST transmission as a lone trasmission of choice for the GSR range.

2008 MITSUBISHI Concept-RA

The MITSUBISHI Concept-RA offers a unique interpretation of the sporty coupe. This two-seat pure coupe concept explores the transversely mounted, front engine packaging theme. Generous helpings of technology create a vehicle that combines exotic appeal, outstanding, fun-to-drive dynamics and heightened sensitivity for the environment

Design

Developed as a technological showcase for Mitsubishi Motors, the Concept-RA displays athletic sport coupe proportions wrapped in dynamic flowing lines that provide a powerful and compelling showpiece for the car’s advanced, high technology features. Broad, muscular wheel arches house 21-inch wheels and lend graphic expression to the high degree of road control and tenacious grip afforded by the next generation S-AWC system. Meanwhile, an exposed engine cover highlights the presence of the car’s high output, efficient, clean diesel engine design. The Concept-RA’s inverted-slant nose and trapezoidal grille fascia reinforce Mitsubishi Motors’ new design identity, albeit suitably revised to reflect the concept’s sporty coupe attributes.
Concept-RA’s deep red exterior hue graphically accentuates the coupe’s fluid, muscular body lines, and offsets a matte black engine hood that helps impart the vehicle’s strong mechanical flavor. The interior has been developed to show a fusion of tradition with leading-edge touches. The cockpit’s wraparound control layout uses minimal visual instrumentation and optimizes the switch and control layout. This reduces the driver’s physical and mental workload, allowing full concentration on driving. The interior also makes extensive use of fine-quality natural materials in a design that delivers the utmost control, confidence, and vehicle involvement to the driver.

Mechanical

The MITSUBISHI Concept-RA’s Super-All Wheel Control driveline is a next generation all-wheel-drive system that adds Active Steering and Active Suspension control to the ACD1, AYC2, ASC3, and Sport ABS components that comprise the highly capable system used on the 2008 Lancer Evolution. Concept RA’s S-AWC system integrally manages these components to realize advanced levels of control over drive torque, steering input, vehicle roll, and braking at each wheel, thereby raising traction, cornering and vehicle stability levels. Such capability affords Concept-RA intuitive, on-demand vehicle behavior that faithfully reflects driver intent by reacting instantly, under a variety of driving conditions, from everyday use to emergency avoidance situations.
MITSUBISHI Concept-RA is powered by a new, high output, high-efficiency 2.2-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel engine with MIVEC4. This clean diesel’s MIVEC system incorporates valve lift control with low and high-speed cam profiles actuating the intake valves. A Piezoelectric injector, common-rail direct fuel injection system allows the engine to use of a lower static compression ratio.
The new diesel showcases a VD/VG (Variable Diffuser / Variable Geometry) turbocharger whose internal vanes can control airflow over the turbine and compressor surfaces to produce optimum boost characteristics at all times. The efficient, low emissions diesel unit delivers a maximum output of 201 hp (150 kW) and maximum torque of 310 ft. lbs. (42.8 kg-m). For compliance with Tier 2 Bin 5 emission regulations in the United States, the clean diesel powerplant relies on a new catalytic converter system that combines a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), NOx trap catalyst (NTC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) technologies.

In an effort to reduce vehicle weight to improve fuel economy, vehicle performance and safety, MITSUBISHI Concept-RA features a new, rigid body structure using an aluminum space frame made from extruded aluminum sections and die-cast aluminum components. In addition, the engine hood, fenders and other outer panels made from lightweight, impact-resistant and easily recyclable plastic resin.

New Zealand Rally Driver Mark Tapper Saw The Moon And Crashed

Mark Tapper, hailing from New Zealand, was in his WRC Mitsubishi Evo and was going at high speed and was deep in concentration till his sharp eyes caught sight of something that was far from usual in broad day light…the MOON!
One of the spectators decided to give Tapper a view of his ‘buns’ on the left as Tapper was flying past at break-neck speed and was about to enter into a corner. Having been slightly distracted, Tapper entered the corner a little too hot and the Evo’s tail smacked the embankment sending them through the tumble-dry cycle!

My Two Dents on Mitsubishi's Poor Planning and Marketing

I always liked the idea of the FTO, a small, stylish coupe that could fit in below the Eclipse in Mitsubishi's lineup. For some reason, seeing this video today reminded me of the triple-diamond's good old days; you know, back when they put out cars like the twin-turbo, all-wheel-drive 3000GT VR-4 and the turbocharged GS-T and GS-X Eclipses.
They even teased fans with the turbo'd, AWD Eclipse Ralliart concept back in 2006; for some reason, nothing came of it. Who WOULDN'T buy a coupe-ified Evo?
Certainly returning cars like that would have justified bringing the Eclipse up-market (think Genesis Coupe), allowing for a small, non-turbo FWD two-door like an FTO (or Lancer Coupe) to go up against cars like the Cobalt, Focus, Civic and upcoming Veloster coupes.
And what if Mitsubishi had continued to build fast, turbocharged cars as in-house luxury/turbocharged alternatives to their front-wheel-drive lineup? The trick would have been to create a sub-brand along the line of Hyundai's Genesis line of vehicles.
The really sad part is that Hyundai is kicking ass with Genesis (which showed up out of the blue), while Mitsubishi had a brand just sitting around and collecting dust: Ralliart. Marketing the sub-brand as Racing meets Beauty, one would think it impossible to mess that up - but they did. That's what you call a shame.
